About Me

Why I’m Blogging…

I like to travel and take photographs…plain and simple.  And, I thought others might be interested in where I travel, what I see, etc.  Eventually I’d like my hobbies to become my full time job, but until then I must stay gainfully employed which is a hindrance to the amount of travel I can do.  If you’ve stumbled across my blog and enjoy it (or, maybe even find it useful), then please share it with your friends.

Where I’ve lived…

I currently live in Western Washington, but as the blog name might hint at I am originally from Alaska.  I was born in Anchorage and raised in Wasilla.  I later moved back to Anchorage for college and work.  In 1998 I decided to trek south to Washington State where I’ve lived ever since.

Where I’ve traveled…

In the United States I’ve been to 16 states (primarily west of the Rockies).  Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, and Washington are the states I’ve spent the most time.

I’ve also been to four of the Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Yukon, Alberta, and Northwest Territories).

In Mexico I’ve been to Acapulco, Cancun, El Golfo, Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres, Algodones, Puerto Peñasco, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Rosarito, Tijuana, Tulum, and Valladolid.

In Ecuador, I’ve been to Quito and the Galapagos.

In Peru, I’ve been to Cuzco, Sacred Valley, Ollaytantambo, Aquas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town), and Machu Picchu.

In Belize, I’ve spent time in San Ignacio, Placentia, Hopkins and on the cayes (pronounced keys) of Caye Caulker, Rendezvous Caye, and Tobacco Caye.

Where I’m headed…

On November 23rd I take of for my longest trip to Belize, Los Angeles, Tokyo, New Zealand, and Australia.

More about me…

As for me, I’m a single 40s something gal that is tired of waiting for others to travel with me.  So, I’ve become pretty good at traveling by myself and I actually LOVE it.  I do occasionally travel with friends as well.

About my family…

My family consists of me and my two furry kids, Kinley and Aker.  In honor of where I grew up Kinley is named after Mount McKinley and Aker is named after the slightly smaller mountain next to it, Mount Foraker.  These names are so fitting because Kinley is truly a mountain sized dog for his breed and Aker is slightly smaller than him.

  1. Thanks for this info! It was the difference of go or not go for my husband. We have three furbabies and don’t leave home without them. And keep on traveling my friend!
