Hidden Moose in Denali National Park and Preserve

I don’t care how many moose I’ve seen in my life, I get excited every time.  During my Alaska/Canada road trip I saw 38.  Of those, eight were in Denali National Park and Preserve.  The thing about moose in the spring was they were shedding and sometimes looked a bit ragged.  They also blended in well with the background.  They would be much easier to spot with a greener landscape.

As you may have read in an earlier post, there was one moose encounter that my dogs and I will never forget.

Here were some of my less exciting, but still awesome, moose encounters.  Each one was so unique.

Cow Moose with Hidden Calf (last year’s)

Look closely…the calf was to the right and slightly uphill from the cow.  You could barely see it’s ears.

Finally the calf came out of hidding.

Skinny Moose

This moose looked skinny to me.  It made me wonder if it was a hard winter.

This was the nicest bull I saw the entire trip.  I was talking to my mom on the phone when I found this guy.  She had to wait for me to snap some photos.

Young Moose

It’s probably this youngster’s first year without Mom.
